Before you get carried away please note that even in the Specter Bill people filing for status under Title VI have to
(a) Wait for the PDs that are pending when the Act passes to become current.
(b) If the current PDs do not become current in 6 years -- their applications will be "held in abeyance" till the PDs PDs that are pending when the Act passes to become current.
I take the "held in abeyance" to mean that they might get I-485 filing privileges at that point but those applications will not be adjudicated.
So you will not really get your green card after 6 years -- you'll be pending till all current PDs become current. Given that family PDs are still back in 1983 per the April 2006 bulletin, they won't be getting their green cards any time soon.
The parity issue is really that Title VI recognizes that
(1) worldwide and per-country quotas make no sense -- and yet, the immigrants who go through the arduous labor cert process that protects the American worker are subject to per-country quotas.
(2) Workers should be mobile and be able to self-petition -- yet skilled workers going through the labor cert process are tied to employer AND job description for years.
best,

IV Core,
I have chosen to participate in the Law makers meeting and received the Talking points ( no confirmed appointments yet)
I know IV has tailored it's agenda after much thought and deliberation. However, it's my personal opinion that some points may need to be tailored based on the party affiliation of the law maker we are speaking to, as one size doesn't fit all.
Pro-labor demands may find resonance with a Congressman of labor background, but may not sit well the pro-employer Republican. ( point 5 of IV agenda). Also Point 7 may not be liked by a Democrat as it places haves before the havenots.
My question is can we tailor it based on whom we are speaking to or keep it standard if some points are disliked by the lawmakers?
I haven't mentioned the actual points as I'm not sure if they can be discussed here. Is it okay to discuss it here? Or is it better discussed offline?

Hi ,
I have a problem with my employer. He never paid me ontime and he didn't paid me since April,2010. So i have applied for H1 trasfer as i am having problems with this Employer. My H1 got approved and now my old employer sent me a notice saying i am in breach of agreement and i should not work for the same client and he will sue me for 50,000 dollars .
Then i replied him saying since he is not paying me from past 4 months his agreement got voided as he is in Material Breach of Agreement.
He is still giving me hard time. Can any one please give some suggestions like if i also proceed legally will it be helpful to me .
Thanks,
Srikanth

Well things are really tough out here (US), even volunteering is not allowed ......
Again thanks to all the guys who posted , 50% say its ok to volunteer, 50% say it is not ok as we are displacing an american worker's job.
It makes it more confusing.
Let me ask one more question here, is it ok to volunteer on h4 visa for a non-profit organization like hospital.......
But man, this is really so bad for folks on H4 visa, what fault is theirs that they cannot even try to bring out their skills and work in this land of opportunity (for no salary).

Mr. Dobbs at it again....spinning it his way. This is so pathetic that it isn't even amusing.
Here's the link http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/08/Dobbs.Nov9/index.html
The relevant sections are below.....He's so desperate that he puts up his nativist colors on full display by equating English to a vote against illegal immigration. Really clutching at straws.
He fails to say that Jon Kyl is not the strident anti-immigrant that Graf and Hayworth are. Does he not get the message? Or is he just "staying the course."
-----------------------------------------------
Take for example the state of Arizona, where voters sorted through 19 ballot initiatives, eight House races, one Senate race and chose a governor. Arizona voters approved four separate measures that revealed their frustration with the endless influx of illegal aliens into that state, including one measure that makes English the official language of Arizona. And don't think that the vote was an expression of social conservatism: Arizona also became the first state in the country's history to reject a ban on same-sex marriage, the only state among eight to do so this November.
Arizonans re-elected Senator John Kyl, who co-sponsored tough legislation to establish border security and reject illegal immigration. At the same time, they refused to send anti-illegal immigration candidates Randy Graf and incumbent J.D. Hayworth to Washington.

Folks,
What is the best and most cost effective way to send some money home ?
Till last year I was using the service from icici and was under the belief that the exchange rate was pretty decent. the service I believe was never free as they make up for service fee though the exchange rate.
Today for example when I check on icici it says they will give a rate of 47.63 per $ which I believe means around half a rupee less per $ ?
so for $1000 they are essentially charging Rs 500 (aound $10)
I beleive previously they were giving around 25 paise less per $ and now it looks like it is 50 paise less per dollor ?
Western union charges $15 and also gives a lower exchange rate than icici.
So would that mean ICICI isthe best cost effective one ?
Ideas ?
Thanks,

Hi Kris,
Can you please give the source from where you heard about this info? There are a lot of rumors being spread without any reason behind them. So this is important to find the source of the info before we get panic or make decision.
Thanks.
Unless its absolutely necessary that you go out of the country I would not advise you to leave. In recent days I have heard of people with even valid H1 stamps .....kris

Your friend is capable of a lot; but incapable of asking his own questions !!! Not being cynical or rubbing salt on a wound....but whats the harm in claiming that its your own problem instead of a 3rd persons.?
Given 'your friends' patents & papers in the technical field, self employment as consultant could be possible.
Also ask opinion of attorney on actually incorporating LLC....timing of incorporating such LLC after receiving RFE can be suspect.
Good luck - to your friend.
Hello,
Thanks for your reply. But I do not appreciate the sarcastic cynicism . The only reason I am fronting for my friend is 1. he does not have time now and 2. because of the apprehension that participating in forums like this may put him in more hot soup. I hope you understand.
Also, I am at loss to understand how can people jump to imaginary conclusions without any supporting basis.
Please let us not create any distractions for a really serious problem we have on hand. I am not going to engage in war of words, even if you have a retort for me.

I am in Austin, Texas.
Will be there for rally in Houston. I am surprised to see very few replies for Texas chapter. There is only 1 reply from Austin and as we know, Austin has significant desi hi-tech crowd. Let's try to do something in Texas. How about organizing rally at State Capitol Building in Austin?

Hi All,
I filed joint tax return for me and my wife (who is on H4 visa) and sent the W-7 form (for ITIN processing) alongwith the tax return files prepared by my Tax Consultant. However, IRS changed my tax return to single return and reduced the fed refund accordingly, saying that ITIN for my wife is missing. When I called them, they could not confirm but only said that the ITIN could be still undergoing processing. Can you please advise what I should do now on my behalf to get back the refund balance amount?

I dont think that the priority dates will become current by next year october for 2003. I really pray for that to happen as we are all going to go through...
We all know that working as a consultant without GC is very risky when market goes down.
So, play your cards safe....

Maybe he should volunteer for a pay cut of 30%. ONLY 30%. See, its trivial little teeny weeny 30%. Its nothing. You wont even feel it. How about that director?
:-) Super! May be you can get him to donate that 30% to IV instead of a pay cut.
